Summit of the Hochblasse

Leaving the car park at the Ammerwald Hotel, the route takes you along a forest pathway that has been mostly cleared into the woods at the start of the "Schützensteig" track. This narrow path snakes its way up through the mountain forest until you once again reach open terrain in the form of a beautiful and isolated mountain valley offering great views of the Hoher Straussberg and the Säuling.
To your right and attached to a tree, you will see a sign placed by the German Alpine Association as part of its “Environmentally friendly mountain skiing and climbing” project ("Skibergsteigen umweltfreundlich"). This gives recommendations for the route and points in particular to the Hochblasse Schönfleck forest and game preservation area.
The track leads on towards a hunting lodge, Follow the summer pathway until you reach the top of the Ochsenängerle, where there is a small hut. Below the East-West ridge of the Hochblasse, the slopes now become steeper as you continue to ascend the wide western ridge, where mountain pines grow.
Once you have crossed the belt of woodland and mountain pine, you will arrive on the exposed and wide summit slopes of the Hochblasse, the summit cross of which is now visible in the distance.
As from many of the peaks in the Ammergau Alps, you will enjoy a magnificent panorama that takes in the Wettersteinblock and the Lechtal Alps and extends as far as the Alpine foothills.
If conditions are not ideal, you should descend via your ascent route to the hunting lodge. If conditions are favourable, proceed in a northerly direction and descend into the Köllebach Valley via the steep North-West face.
Make your way out of the Köllebach Valley until you once again come upon the upwards trail, which you follow back to the hunting lodge. Descend to your starting point at the Ammerwald Hotel via the Schutzensteig track.
