Hike – Altherrenweg
From Oberammergau, the route snakes its way along the gently flowing waters of the River Ammer through the Pulvermoos Moor to Unterammergau. From the mid-point in Unterammergau, follow the path alongside the edge of the forest all the way until you once again reach the WellenBerg Adventure Pool in Oberammergau, from where you return to your starting point.
During the tour, a gently undulating path offers you fine views of the Pulvermoos nature conservation area and of the mountain world of the Ammergau Alps at all times. Spring is an especially attractive time of year as the many plant species display a sea of petals. The Romanshöhe inn is located halfway along the route and features an inviting sun terrace. The sun will also be your constant companion throughout the hike, even in winter.

Turn-by-turn directions
In Unterammergau, carry straight on through the village until you reach the railway station. Turn right into Weiherweg, which you follow until you reach the outskirts of the village. Then follow the hiking trail towards the Romanshöhe (marked by a yellow triangle).
The hiking pathway steadily ascends until you reach a cross of Christ at a point where you will enjoy fantastic views over the Ammer Valley and the surrounding countryside.
After approximately a further 2 kilometres, you will reach the Romanshöhe inn. You then have the opportunity to descend to Oberammergau directly (30 minutes). Otherwise, follow the turn-off to the left ("Altherrenweg"), where the hiking trail will take you through magnificent meadows and alongside shady ditches to St. Gregory's Chapel (erected in 1765 to protect the village against the destructive flood waters of the Laine).
The pathway leads on to Oberammergau and ends back at Ammergauer Haus.
