Turn-by-turn directions
Keep going straight on, enjoying magnificent views of the Ammergau Mountains and the Hörnle, until you come to a tarred agricultural road. Bear briefly to the right and continue along the tarred road as it slopes gently uphill following the signs.
When you reach the top, turn off left and proceed along the field pathway above the wall as far as the Ammer Ravine. You can see as far as the Benediktenwand on a clear day.
Turn off left onto a gentle incline. Before entering the field, you should direct your view to the right, where you will see the Soier Mill and a small tuff waterfall covered in moss. Continue across a field and slightly uphill through the forest above the Ammer.
You will reach a larger field, from where you will shortly enjoy views of Bad Bayersoien and the Kapellenberg. You will then arrive at the Ammer Ravine viewing point, from which you will be able to see the river flowing approximately 75 metes below you.
On the other side of the Ammer, the Hennenkopf and Laubeneck will be visible whilst the Kreuzspitze looms in the background. Remain on the pathway until you meet a broad gravel road. Keep left and follow the trail slightly uphill.
The final stretch goes up the field for approximately 70 metres. You will see a gravel pit on the left-hand side. When you arrive at the top, keep to the right and pass a distinctive cross to the left. During this section of the route, you will have direct views of the Hörnle.
To your right, you will see the Brunnenkopf and the "home mountain" of Bad Bayersoien, the Klammspitze, which is just under 2000 metres in height. The route takes you onto Schmiedsmendler Wiese, a non-fertilised field on which leopard's bane, rampion and many other rare flowers blossom.
Turning round to your left, you will see a crucifix next to a signpost indicating the way back to Bad Bayersoien.
We recommend taking a rest on the bench located there in order to take in the views over the field as far as the Heimgarten. Keep following the path until you come to a barn, where you turn off to the right and pass along the meadow admiring the typical vegetation until you reach the next crosspath. The signage will send you back to Bad Bayersoien via the Simmeler Hof.
You also, however, have the option to return to Bad Bayersoien by turning right and going over the Aubichl. This route provides unique views of the village, the Soier Lake and the surrounding area. You now return to the starting point of your hike.
