Mountain bike tour – Enningalm route

Enningalm

The tour begins at Ettal Mill. From there, proceed in the direction of Ettal and via the very steep "Alte Ettaler Straße" to Oberau. After a short stretch on the main road (Ettaler Straße), turn right at St. Gregor's Chapel into the street "Am Kirchbichl".

Continue straight ahead to the church in Farchant. Turn left, go past the school out of the village and take the agricultural road through the meadows to Burgrain. Just before you reach Burgrain, turn left  past the dog training area to reach the turn for Reschbergwiesen/Pflegersee. The long ascent to the Enningalm and the "Reschberg meadows" now begins. Continue slightly uphill on the forest road until you reach the centre of the attractive Alpine meadow, then turn right to follow the signs for the Enninghalm. Remain on this good forest road until you reach the highest point.

After a short descent, turn right into the pathway leading to the Enningalm (large Bavarian State Forests information board). The final metres are especially tough and will require you to engage first gear and grit your teeth. After this steep stretch, it is just a short distance over the hiking pathway to reach the Enningalm. For good bikers, this is where the fun really begins. From the Enningalm, cycle over the Alpine pasture heading for the Krottenköpfel (to the South).

At the fork in the road, turn left towards Linderhof. An extremely difficult hiking path leading down to the Rotmoosalm via a series of sharp bends now begins. It is, however, perfectly negotiable for good bikers. In the upper section, you will need to cycle very carefully or else push your bike. Please cycle slowly through the whole section leading to the Rotmoos Moor.

Hikers have absolute priority here. At a height of 1350 metres, the trail turns into a forest road that will take you to the Rotmoosalm. There then follows a swift trip to Graswang. Return to Ettal Mill via the right-hand side of the valley.
