Turn-by-turn directions
Cycle over the Linder Bridge and turn left. Once you have passed Graswang, you will enjoy a highly varied route to Linderhof. It is worth making a small diversion to see the palace.
From Linderhof, take the main road, which will now begin to climb. After a short and quite steep ascent with hairpin bends, you will reach the highest point at 1120 metres. A short time later, the "Ammerwald Alm" will come into view on the right-hand side. There are now only a few kilometres to go, past the "Hotel Ammerwald" (now heading downhill) before you reach the shiny blue-green and cool waters of Lake Plansee.
From the campsite at the lake, a road leading round anti-clockwise along the shore offers several bathing opportunities. The forest road that follows climbs slightly as you move away from the lake. You reach a viewing point and follow the forest road through the Neidernach Valley to Griesen.
From here, proceed along the cycle path heading towards Grainau or Garmisch-Partenkirchen until you reach the hikers' car park at "Ochsenhütte" (railway crossing). From here, follow the forest road over a cattle grid. This forest road rises steeply at some points as it leads up to the "Rotmoos" (1210 metres). Cycle downhill back to Linderhof and return to Oberammergau via the route that is now familiar to you.
