This tour follows a tobogganing route and passes through isolated areas of mountain forest up to the Kolbensattel Hut. It is particularly suited to beginners who wish to familiarise themselves with the basic techniques of snow shoe hiking. After a rest in the cosy surroundings of the Kolbensattel Hut, descent is via the educational trail next to the ski piste.

The course was developed in 2015 by the German Alpine Association working in conjunction with local representatives (forestry, hunting and farmers) as part of the “Environmentally friendly mountain skiing and climbing” project.

Author’s recommendation

Nach der Tour wartet das Heißwasserbecken des Erlebnisbad WellenBerg in Oberammergau auf Ihren Besuch. Bei traumhafter Kulisse lässt es sich hier im 34Grad warmen Becken bestens entspannen.

Destination

Kolbensattel car park

Turn-by-turn directions

The ascent leads up towards the Pürschlinghaus via a forest road that is also used as a toboggan route. Watch out for trafiic coming towards you! Turn off left at the large crossroads where the route enters the Schleifmühl Gorge from below and make the comfortable ascent to the Kolbensattel Hut through an isolated mountain forest.
The descent back to the valley is via the uphill route of the ski tour educational trail (signposted). Please be sure to descend alongside the uphill route for the ski tourers at all times so as not to destroy the trail.
It is about a 30-minute hike from the valley station of the Kolbensesselbahn ski lift back to your starting point at the hikers' car park at the Schleifmühl Gorge in Unterammergau. You can also take the bus, which departs from the station in Oberammergau nearby.

Never get lost again. We recommend our free app "Ammergau Alp tour planner", which includes all tours in the region.
