An easy snow shoe hike for beginners. Ppanoramic views and the chance to take refreshments at a royal hunting lodge once used by the Wittelsbach rulers of Bavaria are just two of the highlights that make this tour so worthwhile.

The course was developed in 2015 by the German Alpine Association working in conjunction with local representatives (forestry, hunting and farmers) as part of the “Environmentally friendly mountain skiing and climbing” project.

Destination

Pürschlinghaus

Turn-by-turn directions

From the car park at the Schleifmühl Gorge/Steckenberg in Unteramergau, a gently ascending forest road will take you up to the Langthal Alm/mountain rescue hut.
Just before you reach the hut, follow the forest road off to the left, where it becomes somewhat steeper. After an initial hike through thick mountain forest, all of the final part of the route leads through open terrain and offers you a view both of your final destination and the Teufelstättkopf.
You will be sharing the upwards trail with tobogganists throughout and will need to watch out for traffic coming towards you.
After a cosy rest and refreshments on the sun terrace of the Pürschlinghaus, descend back into the valley via the same route.

Never get lost again. We recommend our free app "Ammergau Alp tour planner", which includes all tours in the region.
