View over the airfield of the military airport Fürstenfeldbruck, which has a long history since 1934.
General Information:

The Mitlitärflugplatz in the district of Fürstenfeldbruck was reached in 1934. It served as an air war school during World War II, surrendered to the U.S. troops in 1945 and was part of the subsequent airlift to Berlin. Since 1956, the air base was a training center of the German Air Force and (as mentioned above) one of the sites of the 1972 Olympic assassination. In 2006, flight operations on the site were discontinued and in 2020 the officers' school on the airport grounds is also scheduled to be closed.

About the 1972 Olympic assassination attempt:

On September the 5th, 1972 Palestinian assassins of the terrorist group "Black September" invaded the Olympic village in Munich, took the Israeli team hostage and, after long negotiations, fled with a helicopter to the air base in Fürstenfeldebruck. The situation escalated here and after a fire fight lasting about 40 minutes, all nine hostages and five of the eight terrorists, as well as a German policeman were dead.

Public transport

The airfield Fliegerhorst can be reached with the suburban railroad line S3 to Maisach station. Then follow the footpath for about 750 meters in a southern direction until you reach the viewpoint of the airfield.

Getting there

On the A8 Autobahn, take the exit Dachau/Fürstenfeldbruck onto Bundestraße 471 until you reach the exit Maisach/Emmering/Olching/Esting/Gernlinden. At the end of the exit, turn right towards Gerlinden. Follow the road and at the second traffic circle take the second exit towards Mammendorf. You are now parallel to the airfield. Follow the road for about 2.3 kilometers and then turn right into Alte Brucker Straße.

Please note that the road parallel to the airfield is not yet marked on the map yet. (Status: December 2020)

Parking

Because it is not an official vantage point, it is only possible to park at the roadside and look across the road to the airfield.
