Nymphenburg Palace attracts over 300,000 visitors every year, but thanks to the huge grounds with numerous winding paths, you won't feel disturbed even at the height of summer.
Nymphenburg Palace was built as a summer residence for the Bavarian electoral couple Ferdinand Maria and Henriette Adelaide of Savoyen after the birth of the heir to the throne Max Emmanuel in 1662. At that time the property was 2 hours away from Munich. Furthermore the castle was only a mighty cubic pavilion after the Italian model, surrounded by a few side and farm buildings. The castle got its present dimensions and the French artistic influence under the Elector Max Emanuel (reign 1680 - 1726). Moreover, Nymphenburg Palace is the birthplace of King Ludwig II.
