Since 1999 memorial to commemorate the 1972 Olympic assassination attempt and the attempted escape of Palestinian terrorists using the airfield Fliegerhorst in Fürstenfeldbruck.
About the 1972 Olympic assassination attempt:

On September the 5th, 1972, members of the terrorist group "Black September" invaded the accommodation of the Israeli Olympic team in the Olympic Village in Munich. They took the team and their supporters hostage and, after long negotiations, escaped with a helicopter in the direction of Fürstenfeldbruck. The terrorists wanted to escape abroad in a Boeing waiting for them at the air base in Fürstenfeldbruck.

The situation at the airfield in Fürstenfeldbruck escalated in the night from September the 5th to the 6th, 1972. At about 00:30 a.m. the approximately 40-minute firefight ended. The result was the death of all nine hostages, five of the eight assassins, as well as the death of a German police officer.

General Information:

The military airfield in the district of Fürstenfeldbruck was reached in 1934. It served as an air war school during World War II, surrendered to U.S. troops in 1945 and was part of the subsequent airlift to Berlin. Since 1956, the air base was a training center of the German Air Force and (as mentioned above) one of the sites of the 1972 Olympic assassination. In 2006, flight operations on the site were discontinued and in 2020 the officers' school on the airport grounds is also scheduled to be closed.
