This short hike is perfect on hot days, as it primarily runs through shady forests. When you have packed your swimming gear, you can afterwards enjoy a refreshing swim at the Riessersee (Lake Riesser) at the small and cozy public swimming area from where you will have a great view of the Waxenstein Mountains.

Author’s recommendation

If you feel like it, you can take a short detour to the Aspen/Colorado facilities. The path starts at the hiking information board underneath the Riessersee Hotel Sport & Spa Resort. Cross the railway tracks and follow the Riessersee footpath to St.-Martin-Straße. The nowadays symmetrical hill with places to rest was made in order to unearth water.

Turn-by-turn directions

Starting from the Hausbergbahn, walk straight ahead and turn left before crossing the railway tracks. Walk along the asphalted road. After a short distance, you will pass a waterfall. Continue your way on the right hand side along the edge of the forest. You will pass several small streams that run downhill to the meadows. At the end of the road, turn left and walk along the road in the direction of Kreuzeckbahnhof. Turn left after about 50 metres (at the Aulealm bus stop) into a well-maintained footpath that leads to the Aulealm and its fishpond. From here, the path will lead you through shady deciduous and coniferous woodland to the Riessersee. You can walk around the Riessersee along both sides of the lake. The small path starting next to the Riessersee Hotel Sport & Spa Resort will lead you back to your starting point. The path winds tightly to the road on which you continue your way on the right hand side to the Hausbergbahn cable car.
