After a cosy break and hearty snack in the Alpine hut St.-Martin-Hütte you will speed downhill on a prepared forest track. Right at the beginning of the run, a few switchbacks demand your full attention, and then the way goes straight and leads you towards your starting point in a larger bend.

Author’s recommendation

This is a great family outing – for children with a little experience, the run is no problem!

Bayernhalle in Garmisch

Turn-by-turn directions

Start by walking uphill on the broad trail on the left of the Bayernhalle. Soon you will cross the Kramerplateauweg above the Kriegergedächtniskapelle (war memorial chapel). Around this area you will have a nice view of the surrounding summits, before the track leads you back into the forest (signposted turnoff to St.-Martin-Hütte/Grasberg). Thereafter, you should remain on this track, in turn leading you up to St.-Martin-Hütte, with its magnificent views, in large serpentines (30 to 45 min). After a break, toboggan downhill on the same track. The narrow bends demand your full attention, as they block the view of the track. Afterwards, you can speed down a straight section – but please look out for other hikers/tobogganists when you cross the panorama trail. Ride straight on to your starting point.
