Among the trails in the Kleinwalsertal the most demanding. But the climbs are worthwhile. Almost alone, you can explore the snowy side valleys and enjoy the view of the Ifen and the Widderstein again and again.

Starting in Hirschegg Au first out of the valley, then moderately rising towards Oberwäldele and back to the starting point. Separate loop Küren (5.5 km) and Wäldele (5 km). There is the possibility to extend to a total of 17 km (Egg). Here you first head out of the valley to Riezlern-Egg, then slightly uphill in a southwesterly direction behind the houses to the "Schneebar-Panoramahütte" and back to the starting point.

Medium difficulty trail - two difficult ascents and descents.

You have the following entrances: Hirschegg Au, Wäldele, Oberwäldele, Riezlern - Egg

Author’s recommendation

For the small appetite - right next to the trail: Schneebar Panoramahütte, Eberlehof,  Alpenhotel Küren, Gschtrüübelhof.

Turn-by-turn directions

To warm up, it goes from the sports field Au initially flat towards Riezlern. After a short but steep ascent you reach the Egg trail. Passing the Egg-Lift, it's downhill. About curves and a bit steeper passages past the Eberlehof in the direction of Schwende. This is turned and it goes up now. Back to the Egg-Lift and on to the Küren-Wäldele-Egg-trail. Again, it goes up initially to the loop in the Ladstatt. Lonely and far away from civilization you turn here a round before it goes up to the forest. Once at the top you have managed the "worst". Now, the trail meanders in easy up and down passages through Wäldele and Oberwäldele before the sometimes rapid descent through the forest to the sports field Au takes place.

Getting there

Most routes from Germany lead to Ulm before carrying on along the A7. Take the Allgäu junction over a section of the A980 to the Waltenhofen junction, then take the 4- lane B19 via Sonthofen and Oberstdorf to Kleinwalsertal. From Austria (Vorarlberg) and Switzerland you reach the Kleinwalsertal via the Bregenzerwald (Hittisau) – Riedbergpass – Fischen – Oberstdorf. From Tyrol the fastest route is over the A7 to Kempten carrying on along the B19 direction Oberstdorf. A motorway vignette is not required to reach the valley.

Parking

A parking area (fee required) is located close to the starting point.

Parking Area Sportplatz Au
