Starting in the district Ausserschwende in Riezlern the Schwendeloipe pulls over the Straussberg up to the Gasthof Hörnlepaß and back on Außerwald. At Gasthof Bergblick there are generous exercise loops for classic and free running technique.

Easy to moderately difficult trail - a difficult descent (difference in altitude 150 m)

You have the following entrances: Riezlern - Ausserschwende (Sonnenburg, mountain view), Außerwald (Hörnlepass).

Author’s recommendation

For the small appetite - right next to the trail: Hotel Bellevue, Genussgasth. Sonnenburg, Gasth. Bergblick, Alpengasth. Hörnlepass

Turn-by-turn directions

Using the double poling technique, start from Außerschwende on the level before quickly reaching the ascent, which is interrupted at regular intervals with flat sections. The natural surroundings provide the rhythm for your breathing and heartbeat and activate every cell and sense in your body. The effort of reaching Außerwald pales into significance beside the beauty of the snowy natural landscape. Once this was a passage into the Walsertal valley, and today it is the turning point and highest point of the trail beyond the state border. The descent is fun and all thoughts of the tough ascent melt away. The route winds rhythmically towards Straußberg. When you arrive at the starting point, you can feel the activation in your arms and legs as the blood pumps through your body, providing it with energy.

Getting there

Most routes from Germany lead to Ulm before carrying on along the A7. Take the Allgäu junction over a section of the A980 to the Waltenhofen junction, then take the 4- lane B19 via Sonthofen and Oberstdorf to Kleinwalsertal. From Austria (Vorarlberg) and Switzerland you reach the Kleinwalsertal via the Bregenzerwald (Hittisau) – Riedbergpass – Fischen – Oberstdorf. From Tyrol the fastest route is over the A7 to Kempten carrying on along the B19 direction Oberstdorf. A motorway vignette is not required to reach the valley.

Parking

A parking area (fee required) is located directly by the starting point.
