The hiking trail first leads through the forest of Nendeln and Schaanwald to the “Salamander” educational nature trail above Schaanwald. After this, a well-maintained dirt track wends its way past the Austrian border through the Maurer Riet to the Birka bird paradise, where you can take a break. The tour continues along dirt tracks to the Eschen-Mauren sports ground and then past the Hilti base in Nendeln back to the starting point in Nendeln.

In addition to hiking, the Schädler ceramic workshop in Nendeln (near the post office) is also worth a visit. A barbecue area below the sloping marsh in Schaanwald is a good place to take a break.

Author’s recommendation

In the Birka bird paradise, the Ornithological Association maintains a small nature reserve as well as a bird paradise with a kiosk, children's playground and biotope.
