Cyclists reach the UNESCO World Heritage city of Wismar via dreamy hilly landscapes in the town Klützer Winkel. In Wismar Bay lies the picturesque fishing island of Poel, which serves as a rest stop for thousands of water birds. We continue over the hilly cooling towards the Baltic seaside resort Kühlungsborn. A little later, Heiligendamm, the white city by the sea, is reached. Soon the steep bank begins, which accompanies cyclists until they get to the port of Warnemünde. On the other bank of the Warnow, the route leads through the Rostocker Heide. This large forest area connects the Baltic seaside resorts Markgrafenheide and Graal-Müritz.
The city of Wustrow is already getting in the mood for the wildly romantic Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, where colourful captain's houses are lined up and rustic Zeesboote rock in the harbour. Shortly afterwards, the artists' colony of Ahrenshoop is reached. Typical thatched houses duck here into the gentle dune landscape. In spring and autumn, cranes can be observed on the passage, especially on the section behind the city of Zingst.
Near Stralsund, the UNESCO World Heritage town on the Strelasund, cyclists reach the gateway to Germany's largest island. Rügen impresses the most with its untouched nature. The cycle path leads around the island. It passes the impressive steep banks of Cape Arkona, the legendary chalk rock called Königsstuhl and the nearby flintstone fields as well as the sophisticated bathing villas in the cities Binz, Sellin and Göhren.
After a visit to the university and Hanseatic city of Greifswald, we soon reach the sunny island of Usedom. Here, one Baltic seaside resort follows the next. Long promenades and traditional spa architecture invite you to explore. Dreamlike beaches, gentle hills and cheeky headlands make the island a true natural paradise.
