Turn-by-turn directions
From the Kaisertrutz walk about 15 minutes to the Holy Sepulchre of Görlitz, an impressive testimony of the late medieval piety. It is part of a medieval place of pilgrimage and devotion laid out under the open sky in the middle of a garden. The conception of the complex is due to the later mayor of Görlitz Georg Emmerich, who laid the foundation stone in 1465 after his return from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. From here walk through the Nikolaivorstadt - the oldest part of the city - towards the Neisse River and the Ochsenbastei with its park called "Zwinger" beside it.
Stroll towards the Neisse River and walk along the bank to Johannes-Wüsten-Straße. Continue walking along Struvestraße and turn into Otto-Müller-Straße, where the Cultural Forum Görlitz Synagogue is located. Consecrated in 1911, the synagogue will overwhelm you with its architectural beauty and the fascinating play of colours in the dome hall. Since July 2021, the synagogue has been open to visitors again after a long period of renovation as a cultural forum. Walk past the entrance of the synagogue though the park towards the city park and admire its lovely old trees.
From here walk to the Obermühle and the viaduct. The impressive Neisse Viaduct stretches 475 metres over the Neisse River and is important for the cross-border railway traffic between Görlitz and Zgorzelec (Poland).
Climb the stairs through the forest to the site of the Landskron BRAU-MANUFAKTUR, where Landskron beer is brewed in deep brewing cellars using traditional artisanal methods with open, hand-guided fermentation. In the modern visitor centre, the Landskron company history can be experienced interactively.
Via Sattigstraße walk in the direction of Jakobuskirche. Then turn left and walk to the zoo, which is a real treasure for the old and the young.
Take tram line 1 in the direction of Demianiplatz or walk about 1,6 km back to the old town.
