The itinerary allows you to cross a wide variety of environments: starting from the valley floor you reach the 1500 meters of Corno della Paura from where, near the military posts, the view extends over the southern part of the Vallagarina, which opens towards the Venetian plain . Then back in the saddle to reach San Valentino, Bocca del Creer and from there gain another memorable viewpoint, a natural balcony overlooking Lake Garda: Bocca di Navene. If you decide to return to these places in winter, to see them covered in snow, bring skis or snowshoes with you! In fact, on Monte Baldo it is possible to go cross-country skiing in San Giacomo or skiing on the Polsa and San Valentino slopes.  Those who do not ski find various itineraries to go with snowshoes. We then descend into the valley reaching Avio and from there, passing at the foot of the famous castle, following the Via Claudia Augusta cycle path that runs along the Adige river, we return to Rovereto and to the starting point.

Author’s recommendation

Walking along this route, Palazzo Eccheli Baisi, in the historic center of Brentonico and the Castello di Avio, in Sabbionara, are worth a visit.

Turn-by-turn directions

After an initial flat stretch of 5 km up to Mori, useful for "warming up the muscles", a rather gentle climb of 8 km begins to Brentonico. From here continue for 12.5 km and after a short downhill stretch, you reach the Corno della Paura (1.500 m), facing 2 short sections on a dirt road, a few hundred meters long, before starting a short but fast descent towards Passo San Valentino (1300 m). Go up another 6 km to Bocca del Creer (1600 m) where the Rifugio Graziani is located. Follow 2 km downhill to Bocca di Navene and 3 km on a slight slope up to Prà Alpesina; from there the descent starts again (6 km), steep , and leads to the fork under the Prà da Stua dam. Turning right, continue downhill for 10 km and 800 meters high difference on a well-polished road with many hairpin bends, up to Avio. Return to Rovereto following the cycle path that runs along the Adige river.
