Only a few metres further on, the road turns into an official hiking trail, which - marked with a red dot - leads through the Wehlener Grund. Here you walk under shady treetops. To the right and left, bizarre rock formations rise into the sky. Continuing along the Grund, which then merges into the Uttewalder Grund, hikers will soon reach the "Waldidylle" inn.
From there, freshly refreshed, the trail continues only a few metres into the Grund to a rock gate that already inspired Caspar David Friedrich to paint a picture. This is where the tour ends. Afterwards, you return to Wehlen by the same route to the market square.
If you are travelling without a pram, you should definitely make a detour from the Wehlener Grund to the mysterious Teufelsgrund. You will find the corresponding signpost "Teufelsschlüchte" not far from the Märkel memorial plaque.

Getting there
Motorway A17: from A4 at the motorway junction Dresden-West change to A17 until the exit Pirna.If you want to go to Stadt Wehlen, stay on the feeder road (S 51) and drive across the Elbe to the Pillnitz / Pirna-Copitz exit. Drive in the direction of Pirna-Copitz.(2) from Dresden via the B172 to Pirna.In Pirna decide whether Stadt Wehlen, Dorf Wehlen and OT Zeichen: then over the Elbe bridge via Pirna-Copitz to Stadt Wehlen junction or OT Pötzscha (left-hand side, station side): then continue on B172 through Pirna in the direction of Pirna-Sonnenstein to Struppen junction (turn left), through Struppen to "Stadt Wehlen" junction(3) through Dresden in the direction of Pillnitz (Pillnitzer Landstraße), then continue via Graupa to Pirna (P.-Copitz)After Stadt and Dorf Wehlen you are already on the right side of the Elbe, so do not cross the bridge to Pirna.
