In Stadt Wehlen, we walk upstream a bit, climb the Schwarzbergweg and arrive at the "Steinerner Tisch" (Stone Table) rest area. The object of the same name was once built by Elector Augustus the Strong to dine here on the occasion of a hunt. The tourist trail leads us to one of the most famous sights of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, the Bastei. From the Bastei bridge and the surrounding vistas we have fantastic views of the landscape. Over steps we descend the Basteiweg. From here you can go to the right to the spa town of Rathen for a stop in numerous restaurants, but you have to hike back again. Let's walk in the Amselgrund past the Felsenbühne Rathen with its spectacular natural scenery. We continue past the Amselsee, on which we can take a small boat ride, to the Amselfall and then to Rathewalde. The cross trail leads parallel to the road towards the Hockstein parking lot. From there we hike to the Hockstein and descend via steps down the Wolfsschlucht gorge into the Polenztal valley. The nature trail "Schindergraben" leads to Hohnstein. Here the castle and the Kasper museum in the tourist information center are worth a visit.

Hike with dog:
The steep and narrow descent over iron stairs into the Wolfsschlucht can be avoided via the nature trail to Hohnstein.
