The tour starts in Bad Gastein in Kötschachtal. Right next to the Hoteldorf Grüner Baum, the first climb to the Poserhöhe is quite steep, there you can hike almost 450 meters in altitude in a relatively short time. The effort is definitely worth it, because here you will be rewarded with a magnificent view to the Gastein valley and you take a break the first time if make a stop at the Poserhöhe. From the children's playground of the Alpenhaus Poserhöhe (about 400 m after the Poserhöhe please go straight and do not turn left to a hunter's hut) is a bit more comfortabel to the Toferscharte. On the way up the steps of the vegetation can be observed very well, forest, crippled forest and finally pasture. The last 200 metres of altitude are again a bit exhausting. But from here you have a nice view to Bad Gastein.
The Almenweg leads downwards to the Harbachalm. For those who still have strength and condition, the climb to the Gamskarkogel, the highest grassy mountain in Europe, is highly recommended. The view from the Gamskarkogel is unique. You see the Hohe Tauern, the Kalkalpen, the Wilde Kaiser and the Dachstein. And the best: There is a mountain hut right on the summit. At the Bad Gasteiner hut you will be spoiled with delicacies. This Alpine Club hut is one of the oldest shelters in the Alps. The cottage was built in 1828 by Archduke Johann and offers accommodation for about 20 people.
The descent is a beautiful hike to the Toferscharte. Afterwards you pass the Tofernalm (closed) and finally you reach the Harbachalm. In addition to specialties such as cheese, butter, bread, bacon or sausage, you must try the apple bread, which is a mixture between cake and fruit bread. The Harbachalm is an old miner's hut from the 17th century. The whole Tofern - but also the Reitalm area used to be for copper mining. The Tofernalm area is particularly well-known for its abundant occurrence of yellow and dotted gentian, from that the roots have a special healing effect for gastric and intestinal diseases and are strictly protected.
At the descent, you pass a chapel. It is a place to hold stillness and to encourage every hiker to say thank you.
