From the abstract forms of the rocky giant Hochkönig to the gentle grass covered mountains of the Hochkönig holiday region leads this stage powerful and strong , quiet and gentle.

Two contrasting nature experiences in a single day. It's hard to imagine more nature than this...

Turn-by-turn directions

The next stage starts at the Dientner Sattel (car park) or the Birgkarhaus/Mittereggalm. From the main road, the Almenweg first descends about 40 vertical meters down to the Dientalm and follows the forestry road leading to the left, through the forest up to the Tiergartenalm. Passing the mountain inn with its big après-ski terrace, we take way to our left and make our way through relatively flat terrain to the Klingelbergalm, where refreshments are available. After another 200 m, we pass a log hut and the trail becomes more and more humid. Now the footpath branches off to the right. It passes through a occasionally marshy landscape and leads with a steep climb up to a saddle, where the route now branches off to the left.  After approx. 700 meters, at a signpost, we turn right and climb the Schneebergkreuz. The panoramic view on this peak is the absolute highlight of this stage!VARIANT: From the Schneebergkreuz there are three options - continue on stage 4 to Goldegg / Weng, or hike via the Karbachalm to Mühlbach, or via the Köckenalm to St. Veit (3.5 hours); already after 2.5 hours walking time we can relax in a peaceful oasis amidst a truly healthful climate.
