Physical condition: Nearly two kilometres long, flat hike in the Almenwelt Lofer. Total hiking time ca. 45 minutes with ca. 30 minutes height difference.

In brief: The first section from the mountain station of the Almbahn II to the valley station of the Grubhörndl lift runs gently downhill on an asphalt road. From here, gently uphill on a gravel road to the Almsee. The way back follows the same trail. Refreshments available at the Restaurant Soderkaser at the mountain station of the Almbahn II.

Tour highlights: The Almsee in front of a magnificent panorama. The Almenwelt Lofer with countless alm huts and cows. And for the kids, the alm adventure playground near the cable-car station.

The tour is part of “Hiking with Kids” in the Salzburger Saalachtal. The duration and difficulty are suitable for children/families.

At the mountain station there is a wonderful playground for the kids. Directly nearby, the Soderkaser is a welcome refreshment stop with typical alm dishes and ice cream for the kids ;)

Turn-by-turn directions

From the mountain station of the Almbahn II in the Salzburger Saalachtal walk downhill in the direction of the Family Express (6-person chairlift). On a level with the Grubhörndl drag-lift, turn right onto a forest road which leads uphill for a short time to the Almsee. Here you can walk around the reservoir and on very hot days cool off your feet. The hike returns back the same way.

With the bus 260 (Zell am See - Salzburg) to the bus stop Lofer Mittelschule/TVB (timetable) and onwards with the Almbahn I and II to the Almenwelt Lofer (free of charge with the Salzburger Saalachtal Card).

By road

From Salzburg via the “Kleines Deutsches Eck” and Bad Reichenhall to the Salzburger Saalachtal.

From Tyrol via St. Johann in Tyrol and Waidring to the Salzburger Saalachtal.

Parking

Parking possible directly at the valley station of the Almenwelt Lofer or in the large car park in the centre directly on the main road (free of charge).
