These rather small moors are the jewels of the almost completely forested Ebbegebirge Mountains. Often they can be found in a mountainside location. Their diversity and distinct flora and fauna justify their nationwide conservation importance.
The largest moor in the Ebbe Moors Nature Reserve is the approximately seven-hectare-large "Grundlose", which is located near the village of Willertshagen and forms the headwaters of the Lister. Individual moors like the "Wolfsbruch" and "Wilde Wiese" can be readily explored from adjacent footpaths. With a lot of luck, you may see a Black Stork. During the autumn rutting season, the bellowing of free-ranging Red Deer can be regularly heard. As in the rest of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Cranberry Fritillary is unfortunately close to extinction in the Ebbegebirge area. Its caterpillars feed exclusively on the Cranberry.

Hiking car park Wanderparkplatz P 5
The recommended hike is a section of the "Sauerländer Höhenflug" hiking trail. The area is reached via regional hiking trail A 2, which starts at the car park and then runs parallel to country road no. 707 in a southward direction. After 1.5 kilometres on narrow paths past imposing individual spruce trees and small clearings, turn left onto the "Sauerländer Höhenflug" trail (trail markers: white H on a yellow background). After 200 metres you will see the Downy Birch swamp forest "An der Huwe" to the right of the trail.
After about another kilometre through spruce forest you reach the "Wildewiese" moor, which begins at the bridge over the Hornberg Stream. After crossing the asphalted path called "Südhangweg", you first go through a Beech afforestation area. Soon after that, you will see the WDR transmitter, the Robert Kolb Tower and the Nordhelle restaurant.
From there, the "Sauerländer Höhenflug" trail takes you northward, leading steeply down to the ski slope. Here the trail curves to the right, and after 700 metres you turn left onto the "Roteichenweg". When you come to a wide logging road, you will see the information board at Wolfsbruch. You return to the starting point of the hike via the trail marked A 4.
