Toughest hiking stage of the Via Engiadina, but also one of the most beautiful trails. Best place for a stop is the Alp Laret. Here you can taste their own alpine cheese and enjoy the scenery.

3rd stage Ardez – Plan Chamuera – Alp Tasna – Alp Valmala – Alp Laret – Prui – Motta Naluns – (Gondelbahn) – Scuol (uo 1147m, down 462m, duration 5.30 hrs). On the upper side oft he village the Via Engiadina trail increases rather steep. After a while the way turns left, and after a right courve starts the ascent to „Plan Chamuera“. Always slightly increasing you reach the „Alp Tasna“ and 3 km later the „Alp Valmala“. Crossing the valley the trail goes up to „Alp Laret“ on 2202 meter over sea. During sommertime the „Alp Laret“ offers various snacks and drinks as well. After this stop the trails increases again to the mountain area „Era dals Jals“. Between rockst he trails leads down tot he meadows of „Clünas“. A small trail near a bank turns right through a little forrest to „Prui“. From here you can choose to walk down to Ftan (bus connection to Scuol), or follow the Via Engiadina trek via „Flurinaweg“ further to cable car station „Motta Naluns“. At the mountain station you can get via cable car down to Scuol (last cable car at 4pm!).

Author's recommendation

If enough time, have a look to "Schlossruine Steinsberg" in Ardez. Beautiful historic place with nice view.

All hiking trails along the Via Engiadina trek require alpine experience and good orienteering. Furthermore stable hiking boots are recommended.

This tour is conveniently accessible by public transport.

  • Mit der Rhätischen Bahn (von Scuol, Chur, Prättigau oder Oberengadin) stündlich bis Bahnhof Ardez

Getting there:

  • Von Norden: über Landquart – Klosters per Autoverlad durch den Vereinatunnel (Selfranga - Sagliains) oder über den Flüelapass ins Unterengadin auf H27
  • Von Osten: via Landeck / Österreich in Richtung St. Moritz auf H27
  • Von Süden: via Reschenpass (Nauders-Martina) oder Ofenpass (Val Müstair-Zernez) auf H27

Ardez ist direkt ab der Engadinerstrasse zu erreichen. 

Parking:

  • Kostenpflichtige Parkplätze am Bahnhof Ardez oder auf ausgeschriebenen Parkplätzen oberhalb des Dorfes
