The cultural landscape of the alpine pastures on the doorstep of the Obsteirian cities
What do Bruck an der Mur, Kapfenberg, Kindberg or even Mürzzuschlag, the urban centers of Upper Styria, have to do with the alpine pastures of the region? Well, these unique cultural landscapes with their diversity of flora and fauna have always been recreation areas and places of longing for nature-loving people in the cities. And it is to such a place of longing that this hike takes us to the Falkenstein and Lachalm.
Monday to Friday hard work, the weekend on the Alm
Some time ago there was a documentary on the culture channel of the ORF, in which an already somewhat older gentleman remembered his childhood and youth in Kapfenberg. According to him, they were very nice memories, memories of hard working days, but also of unforgettable mountain tours and hikes over our high Styrian alpine pastures.

Safety informationMost hiking and mountain tours in the Mürzer Oberland Nature Park are in alpine terrain. Especially for longer hiking and mountain tours a good physical condition as well as surefootedness and a head for heights are recommended. On the plateaus of Rax, Schneealm and Veitsch orientation can be difficult in fog or bad weather. In winter always pay attention to avalanche danger!
This alpine hike is technically rather undemanding, but the entire tour is relatively long!
Mountain rescue emergency call: 140, operation points in Neuberg an der Mürz and Mürzzuschlag.

EquipmentProper backpacking makes a lot of things easier:
Pack heavy things first. The water bottle (ideally: 1 liter or more) should always be within easy reach. All things that are often needed such as sunglasses, camera, cell phone or hiking map belong on top.
An emergency equipment including blister plaster belongs in every backpack and a clothing according to the "onion system" is always recommended! Never forget rain protection on alpine tours!
In winter, when ski touring and snowshoeing, appropriate safety equipment (avalanche transceiver, avalanche shovel and probe) is mandatory! Before the tour always call up the avalanche situation report (www.lawine-steiermark.at).
Burial search devices, avalanche shovels and probes can be rented at the nature park office for a small fee.
