A stunning circular trail that takes in the pearl of the region, the Hauserersee (lake). This shady route is especially good for hot days ‒ including a refreshing dip in the lake!

For this longer, yet not very difficult tour, it is best to prepare well as there are not many places to stop for refreshment on the way. If you decide to do this hike to the Hauserersee on the Kreischberg, please take at least one bottle of water and some food for a small rest. On the way, you can refill your bottle with wonderfully fresh, cool spring water. The hiking trail starts off by leading us into the Lorenzergraben (the first stretch of about 7km can be traversed by car) up to a gate, after which you can only proceed on foot (vehicles and bikes are forbidden from this point, but can be parked here). From here, it's a sedate walk through the forest until reaching the Hauserersee, where a rest and a dip in the mountain lake awaits. After this, continue along the circular route until returning to the start.

Author’s recommendation

  • Arrival by car up to the Hausererhütte/Simabauerhütte junction
  • Please take enough water and a snack/picnic.

Turn-by-turn directions

Starting at the Kreischberg Tourist Information Office, we turn right before the level crossing and follow the road for about three kilometres to the Silvano junction. At the junction, we continue straight on towards the Hausererhütte/Simabauerhütte (1,415m). This is the starting point for the circular route via the Simabauerhütte and onwards to the Simabauerkreuz (cross) up to approx. 1,900m. We then descend slightly to the Hauserersee (1,878m). After this, we hike back up to approx. 1,900m, and continue to the Hausererhütte (1,748m). We follow the signposting to the Hauserersee/Simabauerhütte junction, where the circular trail finishes. From this point, return via the same route as before.

Equipment

  • Sturdy footwear with high-grip soles, protection against the rain, the cold and the sun, enough drink, hiking maps, emergency equipment (dressings, blister pads, etc.)
  • Packing your rucksack properly makes things much easier: pack heavy items first. Your water bottle should always be stored within reach in a side pocket. Items used often, such as sun glasses, camera, maps, etc., go on top.

Sehr schön und kurze Wanderung. Auf alle Fälle mit dem Auto bis zur Kreuzung Simabauerhütte- Hausererhütte fahren. Somit spart man sich gute 7 km Forstweg!
