The Heiligengeistklamm (Holy Ghost Gorge) in Leutschach a.d.W. (South Styria, Austria) runs from the Spitzmühle in Schloßberg to Sv. Duh na Ostrem Vrhu in Slovenia.

Starting from the Spitzmühle (mill) in Schlossberg/Leutschach an der Weinstraße, the Heiligengeistklamm gorge runs to the settlement and church of Sveti Duh na ostrem vrhu (translated into English as "Holy Ghost on the Osterberg") in Selnica ob Dravi, Slovenia. The access point to the gorge is very close to the Spitzmühle, and it is also the lowest point of the hike at 390 m. In total, you will surmount a good 500 m on your way to the church of Sv. Duh.After a beautiful climb through the gorge, you can look forward to numerous culinary establishments near the border i.e. in Sv. Duh; these also offer hot dishes.

Several wine taverns also prove tempting places for rest and refreshment on the return to your starting point.

The rocky path often winds its way beside a stream and is very narrow in places! The gorge offers several walking options, and there are also two points where you can exit the trail.

Turn-by-turn directions

Gorge trail, forest and meadow trails, short sections of road.

The Kleeblattwanderweg No. 1 variant through the Heiligengeistklamm starts at the Spitzmühle (mill) in Leutschach. From here, follow the trail that runs beside and across the stream. Hike through the gorge passing many beautiful waterfalls and numerous special botanical features along the way. Once you've made it to the top, continue across an alpine meadow to the Hof Waucher, and from there follow the road to the border crossing. The trail now continues in Slovenia, towards the church of Sv. Duh. From Sv. Duh, hike along the panoramic border trail on short sections of road and then through the forest to the Buschenschank Postl wine tavern (commonly known as Dobay). Passing via the OberGuess mill and the Buschenschank Grill wine tavern (commonly known as Weisch), you will then continue through the vineyards to the Albrecher (Oberer Muhri) and from there back to where you started.

It is possible to go "hiking without a backpack" on the Wine Trails on the South Styrian Wine Road, but we still recommend taking a bottle of water with you – just in case!

Gleich nach dem Parkplatz startet man mit der Klamm selbst und überwindet dort die meisten Höhenmeter, wird aber nie zu extrem oder zu anstrengend. Außerdem ist man dort gut geschützt im Schatten bei moderaten Temperaturen in traumhaften Mooswäldern den Bach entlang unterwegs. Danach geht es stetig bergauf bis zur Heiligengeist Kirche an der Grenze zu Slowenien. Bergab gibt es einige Möglichkeiten zur Einkehr. Ein wunderschöner Rundweg!
