A quiet forest and meadow hike away from the tourist crowds. Little-used, easy tour in the Mürzer Oberland Nature Park, also part of the Styria-wide trail "from glacier to wine".

The quiet side of the Preiner Gscheid. In a few minutes even on beautiful hiking days away from the crowds, a tour with wonderful close-up views of the south side of the Rax. On the Hohe Scheibe dreamlike panorama (Fischbacher Alps, Mürztal, Waldheimat, Semmering) and on weekends with a then open rustic hut just below the summit of the Scheibe.

Author’s recommendation

When arriving by public transport (recommended) descent from the Hohe Scheibe to Mürzzuschlag and visit the SÜDBAHN or WinterSportMuseum.

Safety information

Most hiking and mountain tours in the Mürzer Oberland Nature Park are in alpine terrain. Especially for longer hiking and mountain tours a good physical condition as well as surefootedness and a head for heights are recommended. On the plateaus of Rax, Schneealm and Veitsch orientation can be difficult in fog or bad weather. In winter always pay attention to avalanche danger!

However, there are hardly any technical difficulties on this tour.

Mountain rescue emergency call: 140, operation center Mürzzuschlag.

Turn-by-turn directions

Equipment

Proper backpacking makes a lot of things easier:

Pack heavy things first. The water bottle (ideally: 1 liter or more) should always be within easy reach. All things that are often needed such as sunglasses, camera, cell phone or hiking map belong on top.

An emergency equipment including blister plaster belongs in every backpack and a clothing according to the "onion system" is always recommended! For alpine tours, never forget rain protection!

decent hike, nothing special considering the region. the trail is almost overgrown in several places and there is plenty of tree fall to navigate.
