The first people settled in our community 5000 - 6000 years ago. From the Urnfield Period (1200 BC) and from the Hallstatt Period we have mound graves in the area of "Ehrenbichl". A small castle once stood there, called "Ansitz Ehrenbichl". At the "Gerichtkogl" there was an old place of execution and an old court house. The name of the village was first mentioned historically in the 11th century. The municipal coat of arms contains the most important features of our village: the Saggau, the fertile farmland and the sign of John the Baptist, the patron saint of the church and parish as well as the eponym of our municipality.
