Via Alpina - Purple Trail
On 66 stages, the purple route of the Via Alpina leads from Slovenia via Austria to Germany. On the way from the Julian Alps to the Allgäu, the route crosses the Steiner Alps, the Karawanken, the Styrian Alps, the Niedere Tauern, the Dachstein, the Salzburg Alps, the Berchtesgaden Alps, the Chiemgau Alps, the Bavarian Pre-Alps and the Ammergau Alps. The landscape consists of limestone plateaus and mountain forests over large parts of the route. Away from the tourist sites, such as the Königssee and the Königsschlässern near Füssen, the violet Via Alpina is mostly off the beaten track. The adventure is usually no problem for experienced mountain hikers with sufficient stamina.
