From the mountain station, this tour takes you down the Schladming glacier to the valley station of the Mitterstein chairlift and from there over hilly terrain with short descents and climbs to the Feistererscharte. It goes downhill via the Guttenberghaus and the Tiefkar. Keep left at the end of the cirque, cross the gully and descend under a small rock face (beware of avalanche danger) over steep mountain pine slopes into the Feisterergraben. From there you follow the Hüttenweg to the right to the Feisterer lift and on to the Hotel Feistererhof. A good sense of direction and GPS are required for this tour.

Turn-by-turn directions

Ascent and descent: from the Dachstein Gondola Mountain Station, cross the Schladming Gletscher (glacier) down to the bottom station of the Mitterstein chairlift. Over hilly terrain with short descents and ascents (skins have to be taken off and put back on several times) to the Feisterscharte (2.193 m). Down to the Guttenberghaus (closed in winter). Here, you will reach the most beautiful part of the descent: down the wide slopes into the Tiefkar. At the lower end of the coombe, keep left and cross the mountain gully until you reach a small rock face (Fischermauer). Careful: there is a danger of avalanches! Over the steep mountain pine slopes down into the Feistergraben, a 2 km long canyon which the Feisterbach has dug into the scree. Follow the trail on the right, which crosses the ditch, to the right until you reach the Feistererlift and Hotel Feistererhof. Cross the gentle meadows until you reach the Landesstraße (bus station). Endpoint: parking lot Hotel Feistererhof, bus station Landesstraße Ramsau. Beware: Mountain experience and sense of orientation are essential!

Equipment

To go on a tour without proper preparation and equipment is reckless. Not only your own life is easily risked, but also that of your fellow mountaineers in the same region.

Must-haves: avalanche transceiver, mobile phone, shovel, avalanche probe, first aid kit, sufficient food and drinks, possibly additional clothing to change.

On the day of the tour: Read the avalanche situation report and weather forecast and check what effects it will have on your planned ski tour: possibly adjust or cancel the ski tour. Are all participants fit and healthy enough to go on the tour? If not, change or cancel the ski tour.
