Via ferrata Höllenrachen B to D
There is a via ferrata along a mountain stream, which is spectacularly studded and leads even partly subterranean – just over the wild stream. „Höllenrachen“ („hell’s throat“) is called the well secured via ferrata, not very difficult (exceptionally of a one-rope hanger over the wild stream!), but very impressive and original!

Accesses:
To Franz Senn Hut: 1,5 h / 410 Hm. From parking short way into the valley, then by many hair-pin bends over steep hillside; Further on crossing long alpine pastures, passing an impressive waterfall to the hut;

Access to Höllenrachen: 15-20 Min. From the hut on marked trail further on into the valley to the first territory ledge and turn left to rocks with white inscription. Short way after access (signposted).

Route course:
Höllenrachen: Short descent behind through some rocks (A/B) to the beginning of the dark „Höllenrachen“. Impressive crossing just over the wild stream (B-C/D, subterranean!) to a small ledge and by boldly footstep over the stream to the other side and into outdoor area.   Over rocky terrain (A) further on to the so-called “Hexenkessel” (boiling pot) (black inscription).

From here two or three possibilities:
a) By rock bridge (A/B) over the stream to the other bank and over short upturn to the exit.

b) Very steep descent into the “Hexenkessel” (D) and over short, very spectacular rope bridge (D, whithout belay E, dangerous!) moving hand over hand (“test of courage” – an additional band sling with screw carabineer or two short expresses for belay is absolutely necessary!)   Afterwards to last short upturn (C) and to the exit.

c) After direct descent into “Hexenkessel” by a sling around an overhanging rock to the rope bridge (B-D).

Descents:
Same as accesses or along the partly signposted descent trails.

Best season:
July - October

Author’s recommendation
