Münchner Haus
Deutscher Alpenverein (DAV)
The Münchner Haus was built in 1897 and since then, only a few areas have been modernized and extended. Consequently, this hut is one of the classic mountaineering accommodations of the first hour. Anyone expecting showers, two-bedrooms or high comfort here will be disappointed. Just 36 beds, all in dormitories, plus only the most necessary sanitary facilities - that's all that is offered on this exposed shelter.
But the view is ingenious - out into the hills of the Alps or southwards to the over 650 peaks, which you can see from the terrace. A more perfect viewpoint with extraordinary impressions in the early morning or late evening hours is hard to find.
For those who expect or are looking for more comfort, we recommend an overnight stay in the lower-lying Knorrhütte. The Münchner Haus itself is mainly used and appreciated by mountaineers who want to start the route over the Jubiläumsgrat very early in the morning, as the entrance to the "Jubi Grat" starts only 100 meters away. You can safe, valuable time in the morning and begin long before those who come up by cable car from 8:00 a.m. During the day, it is usually quite crowded at the top of the peak, as three cable cars transport new day-trippers from all over the world to the summit almost every minute.
From 4:45 p.m., when the last cable car has gone down to the valley and the last tourists have left the summit, an almost magical silence returns. Lucky, who has reserved a sleeping place. Now you can relax and enjoy the unique scenery with a drink in your hand.
