The Via Claudia Augusta, extended to the first real road through the Alps 2000 years ago from Emperor Claudius connects the Danube with the Adriatic Sea. It was one of the most important commercial roads in the Roman Empire. Today a cycling path leads along the Via Claudia Augusta, where you can explore the ancient cultural and trade passage of the Romans. Cyclists experience unforgettable landscapes of South Tyrol, the lively small town of Merano, laid-back villages and testimonies to history and the roman culture. Without any big effort you can go from Stava/Staben near Naturno/Naturns to Nalles/Nals in the South. The cycling path is almost exclusively downhill and easy to do for families. You can rent a bike at Naturno.
