Croda di Cengles (Tschenglser Hochwand) Mountain

From the village of Santa Gertrude a Solda (St. Gertraud in Sulden) at 1,844metres, cross over to the east side of the valley on the road and then take Trail No. 5, which is quite steep, towards the northeast, through the Valle di Zay (Zaytal) Valley and up to the Rifugio Serristori (Düsseldorfer Hütte) mountain hut (2,724 m; 2.5 hours). From the hut take, take Trail No. 5 over boulders and slightly uphill to a fork, where you turn left (sign). Continue on a scree slope up to the foot of the steep south ridge of the summit. From there either a) turn left following the signs for Normalweg, climbing through a steep channel into a notch and then right, to reach over a partially secured via ferrata (fixed rope climbing route) to the summit or b) to turn right, climbing one of the two via ferrata routes up to the very steep south ridge of the summit (3,375m); 2.5 hours from the cottage. Recommended descent: follow the signage for Normalweg.
