The Spronser lakes are found at the centre of the Texel Mountain Nature Park, one of the largest high mountain lake districts in the entire Alps. They are fed with melted snow water and are a real highlight of the Texel Group Nature Park.  Their clear waters reflect the surrounding landscape and they are a popular place with walkers and hikers. The ten little lakes, which lie at an altitude of between 2,117 mt. and 2,589 mt., are the highest mountain lakes in South Tyrol. The lakes include the Kasersee 2,117 mt., Pfitschersee 2,126 mt., Mückensee 2,330 mt., Grünsee 2.338 mt., Langsee 2,377 mt., Schiefersee 2,501 mt., Kesselsee 2,512 mt., Schwarzsee 2,589 mt. and the two Milchseen at 2,540 mt.

The trail starts from Vellau/Velloi (Algund) (reachable either by car or via chairlift)) from there you take the calbeway up to the Leiteralm mountain pasture hut at 1,522 m. From there, Route No. 24 continues up the Merano High Mountain Trail and then through the woods, up to the Hochganghaus Inn at 1,839 m, approximately 1.30 hrs from the Leiteralm hut. From the mountain shelter take the steep path on Route No. 7, initially over the grassy slopes, then the shortcut through the forest, up a steep rocky path – a via ferrata with chains - up to the Hochgangscharte Ridge at an altitude of 2,455 m (lasting 1.30 hrs). Next, take the trail on Route No. 7 which is relatively level, slightly ascending up to the fork northwards. Hint: turning to the left, there’s an extra half-hour detour to the Milchseen Lakes at 2,540 meters. Turning right, the trail takes you down Route No. 22 to the Langsee and Grünsee lakes at 2,377 meters and 2,338 meters, respectively. There’s also an interesting 1-hour detour to the three northernmost lakes, up to the Schwarzensee (at 2,589 m) and downhill into the valley, past the small Mückensse Lake, to the Oberkaser Hut (at 2,131 m). Continuing to the right, on the trail along Route No. 25 passing the Kasersee and Pfitschersee lakes, to the small Pfitscher Jöchl Ridge (with prehistoric remnants), downhill until Taufenscharte (at 2,195 m). Then south, remaining on Route No. 25, down a steep descent to the trail on Route No. 24 and finally to the Leiteralm mountain pasture.
