Beautiful hike on hiking trails and old war-time paths with breathtaking views of the Sesto Dolomites. The technically easiest stage without via ferrata.

During the technically easiest stage of the circular tour your efforts will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the South Tyrolean Dolomites!

The route has no via ferrata and is therefore recommended for hikers who do not want to use via ferratas. To the col of Monte Quaternà the route is easy and largely along forestry paths. The route then continues via war-time paths to Sella del Frugnoni, where you can see the walls of Caserma di Finanza. On the Carnic high route the trail then runs down to the hut Obstanserseehütte. Along the route there are many beautiful views of the Sesto Dolomites.

Towards Alpe di Nemes there are beautiful marshy meadows to admire.

Turn-by-turn directions

From Rifugio Berti you first cross eastwards to Cima dei Colosei on path 124, and from there some 250m altitude downhill to the col of Monte Croce. From Passo Monte Croce (1636m) follow waymark 131 northeastward on forestry and footpaths to uneven forest terrain up to Alpe di Nemes 1877m (restaurant). En route you cross several beautiful marshy meadows on bridges and footbridges. From there continue eastwards on forestry path 146 through grassy slopes to the hut Hirterhütte (1992m). Continue in hairpin bends up to Monte Quaternà col (2329m, various waymarks). If you have left enough time, you could also climb Monte Quaternà (2503m, 45 minutes) from here. The route continues steeply up on war-time path 160 to Sella dei Frugnoni (2539m). There you can enjoy views towards the Sesto Dolomites. In the west you can see the walls of Caserma di Finanza. After a half-hour long descent you reach the end of the stage, the hut Obstanserseehütte on the Carnic high route 403.
