The Hufeisentour is a seven-day-lasting mountain trail in the Alpes of Sarntal. The route proceeds through the hearth of South Tyrol along alpine areas, meadows, traditional alpine huts, peaks and yokes. You walk on unbeaten tracks and natural paths. As well as wounderful and unforgettable views on the UNESCO world natural heritage, the Dolomites, the Zillertaler Alps, the Stubaier Alps, the Ötztaler Alps and the Mountain Ortler in the Brenta Group are waiting for you.
The classical Hufeisentour starts in the eastern Alps of Sarntal at Sarnthein and contains 7 to 8 stages, running in counterclockwise rotation. Of course you can walk into the other direction as well or start at other starting points, for example at Meltina. Here you walk onto the stone cairns "Stoanerne Mandln" and can decide if to walk to the starting point Sarnthein or to the area Merano 2000 (opposite direction).

Turn-by-turn directions

If you start at Meltina, take path no. 13 to the crossroad with "Hohlweg". Here starts path no. 15, which leads directly to the alpine hut "Möltner Kaser". This hut is located directly at the food of the famous "Stoanerne Mandln", where you arrive by walking approximately 30 - 45 minutes on path 28 + 23A. Enjoy the view and continue then on path no. 23C and 23 to the Auener Jöchl.
Here you have to decide if you walk to Sarnthein or to Merano 2000.
Version one - across Sarnthein:
Walk on path no. 2 until you reach the alpine ski hut "Sarner Skihütte". Continue on path no. 2 to the village Sarnthein. From now on you can walk on path no. 3, passing "Almschank Tengler" and "Sarner Scharte", and arrive at the "Gasteiger Sattel". From here you can continue your Hufeisentour.
Version 2 - across Meran 2000:
Walk on path no. 4 to the special viewpoint "Kreuzjoch". Continue this way, passing the tops "Maiser Rast" and "Spieler", until you reach the alpine hut "Meraner Hütte" and finally the "Kirchsteiger Alm". Now you are in the area Merano 2000 and can decide by the "Missensteiner Joch" if you want to walk on the longer route, passing the mountain Hirzer, or the simplier family route, passing the hut "Durr-Alm".
