Start at the fee-based Zumis car park (1,725 m) above Rodeneck/Rodengo and walk across the meadows along the mountain road before following trail no. 4 on the Confinweg Trail to the left. Further up, the trail rises slightly through a forest before crossing over some flat meadows to reach the Ronerhütte mountain hut (1,832 m).

The hike to the Astalm mountain hut (1,954 m) leads over the pastures to a rocky outcrop beyond the forest line before arriving at the cross on the Astjoch summit (2,194 m).

To return, take trail no. 12 to the Kreuzwiesenalm refuge (1,924 m), then follow trail no. 2A passing the Rafreider, Steiner and Grimmatze Alm mountain huts along the way. Follow trail no. 2 back to Zumis parking lot.
