Turn-by-turn directions

Texelbahn Cableway mountain station
Tour End
Texelbahn Cableway mountain station

The Texelbahn Cableway brings you up to the Merano High Mountain Trail and follow Route No. 24 until you reach the Nasereit Refuge at 1,523 m. Then take Route No. 8 to the Gingglalm mountain pasture up to the Lodnerhütte mountain hut (at 2,260 m). The hut is open in summer and is serviced so visitors can stay over-night. Just after the hut, the path forks. Follow the trail to the left along Route No. 9, looking out for the the signpost to "Roteck" and at the next fork, take the right turn along the slope until you reach a grassy hollow called the Schafbank (Sheep Bank). Next, take the Roteck East Ridge across a rocky stretch which is relatively easy and also sign-posted. ATTENTION! As a result of several rock falls, which have ocurred during the last years, the ascent of the summit has been complicated substantially. The peak is to be mastered only for skilled and experienced mountaineers (absolute step security!) Climbing equipment is absolutely recommended! Descend briefly into a rocky crevice with the aid of a via ferrata iron chain across a small rockface up to the top of the ridge and from there it is an easy walk to the summit at 3,337 m. A one-way hike from the hut takes approx. 3.5 hours and the descent is down the same route.
