The Herrensteig Route at the End of the Villnösstal Valley

Starting at the parking lot in Zannes (1,670m), take forest track no. 25 along the Kaserillbach stream down a deep gully. On reaching the "Herrensteig" signpost (1,805m), the trail bends left through the ravine until it reaches a crossing (1,960m). Ascend up the "Oberer Herrensteig" still following trail no. 25, as it turns right. Levelling out slightly, the route runs through a rocky section up the steep grassy slopes along the western edge of the forest, before reaching a mountain ridge (2,250m). Crossing through the pastures, the mountain pasture trail leads north to the Jöchl ridge (2,114m), turning right at the crossing. Turn sharp left onto trail no. 32A in the direction of the Kofelwiese pasture (1,952m) and follow the sign to Zannes. Continue along trail no. 32 up a grassy mountain slope (1,895m; Mt. Villatscher). Skirting the forested southern slope of the "Unterer Herrnsteig" trail, head east until reaching a crossroad (1,958m). The return is on trail no. 32B, past the deer park and into the valley, back to the starting point.
