Recommended from early summer to late autumn, mainly when the rhododendrons are in bloom, and after the first snowfalls in autumn. In summer, a minibus shuttle service operates between Luson and Flitt, connecting them to the Schwaiger Böden parking lot.
From the Schwaiger Böden (1,720m) follow trail no. 2 northeast through the forest to the mountain pasture. At the Maurer Dreiwiesen Alm alpine pasture, take the trail east to the Genaideralm and Schenideralm alpine pastures. Continue to the Astalm alpine pasture near the ridge, and to the "Jakobstöckl" shrine (at 2,026m, views to the Brunico basin). Forest trail no. 10 leads northwest up the mountain crest to Kampiller Alm alpine pasture. The detour along trail no. 10A, leads to the Campill summit (2,190m; scenic views). Continuing along trail no. 10 before switching to no. 12A, the route leads to the western flank of the Campill before descending into an enclosed basin with sparse woodlands along a mountain track to the Kreuzwiesenhütte (1,909m; mountain inn). The return follows the Schmalzhaussteig trail through the pine forest to trail no. 2 and back to the starting point.
