The sunny trail leads through a beautiful area, past the romantic Egelsee lake.
The Egelsee cross-country ski trail is one of the sunniest trails in Abtenau. With a constant view of the Tennengebirge mountains covered in deep snow, you run past the wildly romantic Egelsee lake. The trail has a medium level of difficulty and is classic.
The car park is located directly at the former Sonnenhof Inn.
Author’s recommendation
- Enjoy "Alpine cinema at its best".
- After 2 kilometres, it is possible to extend the trail with the Rossbühelloipe (3 km).
- At the former Fliehofbauer country inn there is the possibility to turn left into the cross-country ski trail Fischbachloipe.
- Every guest who stays overnight in Abtenau can take part in a basic cross-country skiing course free of charge (Info: TVB Abtenau).

Tips and hints
A beautiful winter hiking trail leads parallel to the cross-country ski trail across the snow-covered landscape.
A voluntary cross-country skiing fee is payable at the Abtenau Tourist Office or in the sports shops, and there are also cash points for voluntary donations at the entry points. Thank you!

Turn-by-turn directions
The trail leads slightly uphill from the start. In slightly undulating terrain, the trail continues to the scenically beautiful Egelsee lake, from there to the edge of the forest, continuing on a somewhat steeper ascent to the Fliehhofbauer schnapps distillery. In a long round, the trail leads past the Wimmwaldsiedlung (housing estate). From here you have a wonderful view of Abtenau and the backdrop of the Tennengebirge mountains - pure alpine cinema! The trail descends slightly to the starting point.

Public transport
Take public transport to Abtenau town centre, approx. 1 km on foot to the former Sonnenhof inn. Route planner: www.oebb.at, www.salzburg- verkehr.at
Getting there
Coming from the direction of Vienna on the A 1 or from the direction of Munich on the A9, junction Salzburg and continue on the A10 - Tauernautobahn (highway), exit Golling-Abtenau, exit 28 or exit Lammertal-Hüttau, exit 56/60 and then on the Lammertal-Bundesstraße to Abtenau.
Leave the main road at Abtenau-West (Lagerhaus), turn left twice after the sports facilities in the direction of the Abtenau adventure pool.
