The beautiful Russbachtal was captured by the medieval clearing shaft only in the 13th and 14th century. The legend explains the place name with the earlier that the poachers in the local brook washed the soot from their faces. The single-nave hall church to the Holy Cross (1856-1862) with a high altar (17 century) stands out for its striking tower.

Turn-by-turn directions

Immediately after the end of the village of Russbach you hike the old Gschüttstraße entlag up to the Erlbach cap. You cross the main road. After approx. 2 km, a freight road leads in the direction of Zwieselalm. On the lower route, the Knabelbach flows to the right next to the goods road. The path leads into the geologically interesting "Elendgraben", where evidence for a meteorite impact (of around 65 million years) was found. The extinction of the dinosaurs is attributed to this event and the associated climate change. In the area of ​​the misery hut the way turns to the right and leads to the Klockauaulm. The hike continues in the direction of Edtalm to the signposts in the direction of Zwieselalm. Before you come to the Edtalm and Zwieselalm, the path leads past this pastures and you come to the Riedkaralm, where the trail leads back down into the Lammertal. From the Riedlkaralm follow the road to the Wölhofsiedlung left into the Rauenbachtal to the Dolomitenhof. From there take the path nr. 55-52

Getting there

Coming from the A10 motorway, take the exit Golling direction Abtenau and Russbach. From Bad Ischl you drive via Bad Goisern and Gosau to Russbach.

Parking

You will find enough parking area in the center of Russbach or at the valley station of the Hornbahn Russbach.
