The famous red spruces used for making musical instruments grow in these forests, used by master luthiers including the famous Stradivarius to build the sound boxes of violins, guitars, and pianos among others.

Some of these trees have also been dedicated to the great performers who make their way to the Val di Fiemme each year to take part in the ‘Sounds of the Dolomites’ event.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the village of Predazzo take the road leading to Valmaggiore. Park at the bridge and walk in the direction of the Malga Valmaggiore (Alpine dairy). After 200 metres take the walkway across the stream to the right and follow the
directions for ‘Il Bosco che Suona’ (the sounding forest).

Climb the trail through the woods for about 500 metres to meet the forest road. From here continue right, following signposts. After the walk through the Musical Woods, descend along the forest road to the cross with the main road.

For a scenic detour turn left and after 100 metres stop to admire the ‘Larice Solitario’ (lone larch) on the right and the view over Predazzo and its valley. Backtrack along the same trail and then take a left to return to the car-park.

We recommend using the tablet+audioguide available free of charge from the APT/Tourist Office in Predazzo for visits to the "Bosco che Suona".
