Safety information

This is a long and exhausting day on technical via ferratas. This tour should only be undertaken with experience and knowledge of via ferrata safety.

Tips and hints

It may be more interesting, although a bit slower, to descend from Rifugio Lagazuoi via the historic World War I tunnels. The entrance is located next to the gondola station. After exiting the tunnels, you'll descend onto the main descent trail from Rifugio Lagazuoi.

Destination

Rifguio Lagazuoi

Turn-by-turn directions

Take the trail that descends from Rifugio Lagazuoi to Forcella Lagazuoi and then continue to Forcella Travenanzes. Here turn right to take the descent trail almost back to the gondola station at Passo Falzarego. Before reaching the pass, turn left onto trail 423. Where the trail splits, stay left and begin to ascend again.

At the end of the impressive ruins of World War I barracks, locate the sign for the Via Ferrata degli Alpini. Follow this left, then to the right up to the Col Dei Bos at 2,559 m. From the col, descend northwest on the hiking trail to meet up with trail 402.

Turn left onto trail 402 and continue back into familiar territory at Forcella Travenanzes, followed by Forcella Lagazuoi and finally Rifugio Lagazuoi.
