When you get to the Rifugio Malga Consèria with its wild landscape and its horse stables you’ll be forgiven for thinking you’re in the far west. Instead you’re in the heart of the Lagorai, where the Great War was fought a hundred years ago, on the road linking Val Campelle with Vanoi, which is also a route for mountain bike enthusiasts and for riders on the Lagorai horse riding trail. The refuge - owned by the Scurelle District Council - has been completely renovated, and boasts “Family in Trentino” recognition (for its initiatives aimed at parents with children) as well as being “dog friendly”. Open Every day from early June to early November, and from Christmas to 6 January On weekends from 8 December to March Before leaving for your hike, always contact the manager to verify the actual opening of the mountain hut Walks If you walk up the Val Campelle from the refuge, you can then continue to Passo Cinque Croci (40 minutes, difficulty E) and from there it’s an easily climb to Cima Socede and to Col di San Giovanni (both former war zones). It’s also an easy walk from the refuge to the little Lasteati lakes along the Sentiero della Memoria (Path of Remembrance) with the option of continuing to Rifugio Cima d'Asta (4 + 1 hours, difficulty E).
